The CAT, a company with expertise in building strong and durable devices, has released two new rugged Smartphones S41, S31 and Tablet T20 at IFA. The devices will feature rugged build, water resistant, drop/ vibration proofing, military grade protection, and large batteries. As for pricing, The Cat S31 will cost around at €330/£300 whereas the Cat S41 cost around at €450/£400 and the Tablet Cat T20 will be priced at €650/£600.

Cat S41

Starting with the Cat S41, It will have a massive 5000mAh battery, which offers up to 38 hours of talk time (on 3G) and up to 44 days of standby. And users can power other devices with its USB Battery Share feature and the cable is provided in the box. The company claims that the smartphone can go beyond IP68 waterproofing as it has been tested at 2m depth for a whole hour. The smartphone could also survive a 1.8m drop on concrete as it comes with the MIL-SPEC-810G certification as well, and supports category 4 vibration proofing.

The smartphone will feature a 5-inch IPS display with Full-HD(1920 x 1080) resolution and for the protection it has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 scratch-resistance. The display also has auto switch support, wet finger and glove support. It is powered by a 2.3GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P20 MT6757 processor coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage which is expandable via MicroSD up to 2TB.
The S41 will sport a 13MP camera on the rear with PDAF, and LED flash. On the front, it has an 8MP camera for selfies and video-call. Both cameras can be used underwater. It would be running on Android 7.0 Nougat. The connectivity options include 4G LTE, FM radio, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Micro-USB port with OTG support, and GPS/ A-GPS. The Cat S41 smartphone measures 152x75x12.85mm and it weighs 218 grams. On board sensors include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, and proximity sensor.

Cat S31

The Cat S31 will be a compact smartphone, It will feature a 4.7-inch IPS display with HD(1280 x 720) resolution and for the protection it has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 scratch-resistance. The display also has auto switch support, wet finger and glove support. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 quad-core SoC paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage which is expandable via MicroSD up to 128GB.

It packs a 4000mAh battery and will be running on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. The handset comes with IP68 certification, which means it can survive immersion in up to 1.2 metres of water for up to 35 minutes. The smartphone is drop proof up to 1.8 metres as well, and has also passed the MIL-STD 810G standard test.
On the rear, the smartphone will sport an 8MP camera with LED flash. And for the front-facing camera it has a 2MP sensor for selfies and video-call. Both cameras can be used underwater. The connectivity options include 4G LTE, FM radio, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Micro-USB port with OTG support, and GPS/ A-GPS. The smartphone measures at 146×74.42×12.6mm and weighs 200 grams. On board sensors include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, and proximity sensor.

Cat T20

Moving on to the Tablet Cat T20 which also has the rugged aesthetic, apart from being vibration and drop (from a height of up to 1.8 metres) proof and it also comes with IP67 certification so it could survive up to 1 metre of water for up to 30 minutes. The Tablet will feature a 8.0-inch IPS display with HD(1280 x 800) resolution and for the protection it has Corning Gorilla Glass. It is powered by a 1.44GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z8350 processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage.

As for optics, it sports a 5MP camera on the rear and on the front it has a 2MP camera. It packs a 7500mAh non-removable battery and will be running on Windows 10. The connectivity options include USB 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, mini-HDMI, GPS, GLONASS, and 4G LTE support. The tablet measures 220x143x14mm and weighs 650 grams.
As for availability, the S41 is already available on the company’s website, while the S31 and T20 will be made available sometime later this year.
