Google confirmed that it will be releasing Android’s upcoming version Android O on August 21. The company will be holding an event in New York City on August 21, starting at 2:40 PM ET which will be live streamed globally. A countdown has been added to the company website with the heading “Android O is touching down to Earth with the total solar eclipse bringing some super (sweet) new powers!” as timing coincides with the solar eclipse.
The Android O is also known as Android 8.0, the preview built of the OS was released back in the back in March and is currently in its fourth developer preview. The new version will have improved overall performance, better battery life for starters and there will be some UI changes such as the notification panel with a whole new range of colors, a new layout, etc..
As for naming it is expected to be called Oreo as earlier Google posted a teaser trailer video on its own Google+ profile which had the word “Oreo” in it. At the moment there is no information about the OTA updates for Pixel and Pixel XL and other older models.
