Apple on its 10th anniversary unveiled its special edition smartphone iPhone X. The smartphone will have a bezel-less display, along with the Face ID facial recognition system for security. iPhone X will be available in two colors Silver and Space Grey. Pre-orders will start from October 27, and the sales begin November 3 onward.
The iPhone X sports a 5.8-inch Super Retina OLED bezel-less display with (2436 x 1125)resolution and 458 ppi pixel density. The display will also support HDR10,Dolby Vision and 3D Touch with 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. For protection it has oleophobic coating.
The smartphone will be powered by Hexa-core A11 Bionic processor SoC with two cores, which will be used for tasks requiring high power, such as gaming and video manipulation. The remaining four cores could handle the lighter housekeeping – texting and checking email, for instance. It will come with 3GB of RAM and two built-in storage options consists of 64GB and 256GB.
The company ditched the fingerprint scanner or Touch ID which was used in iPhones since the iPhone 5s for protection and switched to FaceID which uses a flood illuminator so it works in darker environments and a dot projector that paints 30,000 invisible IR dots, which opens the camera app and scans for the pattern it recorded based on users image.
The company claims that FaceID is much more secure than TouchID, with a failure rate of 1,000,000:1 to compared to fingerprints which has a failure rate of 50,000:1. The faceID could also used for Apple Pay and all other features that were dependent on Touch ID.
Moving on to the optics, the smartphone features a vertical dual camera setup on the rear with a primary 12MP sensor comes with an aperture of f/1.8, while the other 12MP one is a telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. Both sensors will have optical image stabilization (OIS). On the front, it comes with a 7MP front-facing camera with Portrait mode, Animoji, f/2.2 aperture.
The handset runs on iOS 11 and will support wireless charging is supported by Qi, which is considered as the standard. Coming to the price of the iPhone X, it carry a price tag of $999 in US, £999 in the UK, €1,150 in European markets and Rs. 89,000 in India for the base 64GB model, and the company did not reveal price for the 256GB variants.
