JioPhone was launched on August 24 and was up for pre-ordering the same day. Now the company says that it has started delivering the JioPhone to the customers from September 24 onward. As over 6 Million units were booked so it would take roughly 15 days for the company to deliver all devices.
Customers can track their JioPhone delivery status via online and offline channels. To check it online, customers need to download the MyJio app on their smartphones. The application is available on both iOS and Android smartphones, but applicable only for those with a Jio number. On MyJio app, customers can check their order status by selecting “Track order” and fill in the details accordingly. Alternatively, customers can also check it online by using the number used for pre-registration to call Jio’s customer care (18008908900). Upon calling the number follow the instructions given, and customers should receive an SMS later with the delivery date details.
Deliveries of the Jio’s featured 4G handsets will begin from rural areas and small towns before urban centers. At the moment there is no information when the sales of the Jiophone will commence again, but as per earlier rumors it could start after the devices are delivered which could be in the second week of October.
As far as features and specifications, Jio Phone will feature a 2.4-inch display with 320 x 240 resolution. The phone will be powered by Spreadtrum SC9820A/QC8905 SoC with Mali-400 GPU and 512MB of RAM. It comes with 4GB of internal storage, along with a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 128GB.
The handset will pack 2000mAh battery and will be running on KAI OS which will support 22 Indian languages. It will sport a 2MP rear camera, along with a 0.3MP front-facing camera. The JioPhone can be connected to TV with the help of JioMediaCable which can be bought separately. The connectivity options include 4G VOLTE, LTE Cat4, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, FM-Radio, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro USB 2.0.
