Oneplus was again caught cheating on benchmarks in order to achieve higher scores by XDA developers. Earlier, Oneplus 3 and OnePlus 3T was also found running on performance mode as soon as a benchmark test was initialized to get better scores on testing apps.
When Oneplus 5 was tested on benchmark it scored higher than Samsung Galaxy S8 and Xiaomi MI6 which are powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. The device achieves these kind of outperforming scores because all little cores of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 are running at 1.9 GHz which disable thermal throttling. Normally these cores only reach this kind frequency in some case and as stated before Oneplus has fixed there little cores frequency to 1.9 GHz to get highest GeekBench 4 scores of a Snapdragon 835 device to date.
Other testing apps AnTuTu, Androbench, GFXBench, Quadrant, Nenamark 2, and Vellamo can also be affected. Carl Pei the founder and CEO of the company replied on the matter as they have modified their processor so that when running benchmark apps the phone performs the same as when running resource intensive apps such as 3D games. The chipset is fully activated when launching apps to make the launch experience faster and smoother.
