Samsung has officially announced the new Galaxy S8 Active which is a company’s rugged variant of the latest flagship Galaxy S8. The smartphone will be available from August 11 while the pre-orders on AT&T network has commenced from today onwards.
The smartphone will have a rough and tough exterior with MIL-STD-810G-certified shock resistance to withstand accidental drops and for protection from dust and water, it also has IP68 certification similar to the S8 duo.
Samsung Galaxy S8 Active boasts a 2.35GHZ octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with Adreno 540 GPU. As for the storage, it has 4GB of RAM with 64GB of internal memory which can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card slot.
The smartphone comes with a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a Quad-HD (2560 x 1440) resolution and has the same Galaxy S8’s 18:5:9 aspect ratio but without dual curved edges. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It will be running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with TouchWiz on top.
On the rear, it sports a 12MP camera with f/1.7 aperture, optical image stabilization, and LED flash and it has an 8MP front-facing camera for selfies and video-call. It will be powered by a bigger 4000mAh when compared to the S8 duo. The handset also comes with a dedicated Bixby button and will be priced at $850. It will be available in two color variants Meteor Gray and Titanium Gold.
