Sharp has officially announced a new smartphone, Aquos R Compact, which is a toned-down version of the flagship phone Sharp Aquos R. The smartphone is a tri bezel-less display smartphone with absolutely no bezels on the top and either side, but has a huge bottom bezel where the fingerprint scanner rests. There’s a cutout at the top for the selfie camera shaped like a little U similar to the Essential Phone, splitting the status bar in half between notifications.
Under the hood, as the name suggest it would be compact device, it sports 4.9-inch IGZO LCD display with Full-HD+ (2032 x 1080 pixels) resolution, the display has 120Hz refresh rate that is twice as fast as almost every other smartphone display. It boasts an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
On the rear, The handset features a 16.4MP camera with PDAF and LED flash support. And has an 8MP front-facing camera for selfies, video-call, etc. Running the whole thing is a 2500mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0. It comes with EMOPA 7.0 based on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo. The smartphone is also IP68 certified so it can withstand water and dust.
The Sharp has added all the major connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C. The Aquos R Compact will be available in several color options such as Gold, Black, White, and Silver. The company has yet to announce the price of the smartphone and it will be available in December exclusively on Softbank Japan.
