WhatsApp has added two new features with current update which consists of support for picture-in-picture during video calls and the ability to have text-only status message. These features were added to the beta version of the App a while back.
Starting with picture-in-picture (PIP), it would let users minimize the video call window into a smaller window so that users can simultaneously Chat with other WhatApp users while continuing their ongoing video call conversation. The users will also be able to move this PIP window around on the screen and place it anywhere on the display they like. The picture-in-picture (PIP) mode will work with other apps as one can switch to a different app on their device while continuing their video call on WhatsApp.
Moving onto the text-only status message feature, it will let the users write their status update with a colourful background, font, and emoji combination instead of posting a photo or video as their status. These text-only statuses will also have just up to 24 hours of visibility.
The picture-in-picture (PIP) feature will only be available on smartphone with Android 8.0 Oreo whereas the text-only status message feature will available for both Android and iPhone users.
