Just yesterday the Xiaomi Redmi 5 was listed on a Chinese telecommunications service provider named China Telecom webiste and it was rumored that the company will be releasing the upcoming smartphone on December 10 but that turned out to be fake as recently the company has officially announced that they will be unveiling the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones on December 7.
Xiaomi has released a series of teasers where they are showing off the full screen design, LED flash for the selfie camera, and its massive battery capacity. The smartphone is expected to come in a new coral blue, Gold and Rose Gold colors as it has been teased in some of the images. The smartphones will come with all metal back panels and have a single primary camera followed by the flash and the fingerprint sensor. On the front they will rock an elongated display with thinner bezels.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will feature a 5.7-inch display with HD (720 × 1440 pixels) resolution and has an 18:9 aspect ratio. It will be fueled by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor which is clocked at 1.8GHz and has a Adreno 506 GPU. The handset will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. But there is a possibility of base model which will have 3GB of RAM with 32GB of built-in storage. Both variants are expected to support MicroSD card for expansion of storage.
In terms of optics, the smartphone will sport a single 12MP camera on the rear. And in the front it has a 5MP camera with soft LED flash. It will pack a smaller 3300mAh battery when compared to its predecessor and come loaded with latest MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will measure 7.7mm in thickness and weighs around 157 grams.
Coming to the Redmi 5 Plus, it will rock a bigger 5.99-inch display and come with similar 18:9 aspect ratio. It will also be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor which is clocked at 2.0GHz mated with the Adreno 506 GPU. The handset will be available in two storage options, the base variant will come with 3GB of RAM with 32GB of built-in storage, while the premium version will have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Both variants will support MicroSD card for expansion of storage.
As for pricing, The Redmi 5 is expected to arrive in China with a pricing of 699 Yuan ($106/€89/Rs.6814) and the Redmi 5 Plus may carry a price tag of 999 Yuan ($151/€127/Rs.9738).
