Xiaomi introduced its new selfie focused smartphone series, Y an event in New Delhi. The new smartphone series consist of the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and the Redmi Y1 Lite. The smartphones are the global versions of the Redmi Note 5A Prime and the Redmi Note 5A which were launched earlier in China in the month of September.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1
The smartphone features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution and has Corning Gorilla Glass on top for screen protection. In the hardware department, It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 435 processor alongside an Adreno 505 GPU.The smartphone will come in variants, the base variant has 3GB of RAM paired with 32GB of internal storage and the premium version 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage.
The smartphone comes with a 16MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, 76.4-degree wide-angle lens, and a dedicated front-facing LED flash for capturing enhanced selfies. The rear camera, on the other hand, is a 13MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF. The device comes in two color options Black, and Gold with a brushed metallic finish and supports dual-SIM as well as a dedicated microSD slot.
The smartphone will run on Android 7.1.2 Nougat underneath MIUI 9 and packs a 3,080 mAh battery. The device’s dimensions are 153 x 76.2 x 7.7 mm and weighs around 153 grams. The 3GB RAM+32GB ROM Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will go for Rs.8,999 ($140/€120), while the more premium 4GB RAM+64GB ROM option is Rs.10,999 ($170/€146).
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite
The lite version comes with a smaller 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with HD (1280 x 720 pixels) resolution. It is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 SoC, clubbed with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage that can be further expanded up to 128GB via a dedicated microSD card slot.
The smartphone comes with a 16MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture, 76.4-degree wide-angle lens, and a dedicated front-facing LED flash for capturing enhanced selfies. The rear camera, on the other hand, is a 13MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF.
It comes in Light Grey and Gold color options.
The smartphone will also run on Android 7.1.2 Nougat underneath MIUI 9 and packs a 3,080 mAh battery. The handset’s dimensions are 153 × 76.2 × 7.55 mm and weighs around 150 grams. It will cost around Rs. 6,999($109/€94).
Both the smartphones will be sold exclusively on Amazon and MI store online in the Indian markets.
Xiaomi India also announced the MIUI 9 update during the event. The MIUI 9 update brings faster app launches and smoother UI with added features like split screen, icon animations, app vault, smart photo editing, second space, Mi Video, and T9 dial pad. The MIUI 9 is claimed to be as fast as the stock android and also comes in 56 languages across 220 countries.
